Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) is promoting the commercialization of tritium, a key material required for nuclear fusion power generation. Although tritium is a radioactive material, it is known to have a higher added value than gold because it is widely used in daily life as well as in the industrial and military sectors. However, under the Moon Jae-in administration’s nuclear phase-out policy, the company could not use its stored tritium properly, so S. Korea had to rely entirely on imported tritium. If the company commercializes tritium, it will be able to export it.
KHNP
plans to sign a tritium sales contract with private companies and supply it in
the second half of 2022.
