September The Foundation Meeting of the WCI was held at the IAEA Headquarters, Vienna, Austria. Dr. Chang Sun KANG was elected as the first President of the WCI. It was decided that the WCI Secretariat would be hosted by the Korea Radioisotope Association.

June An Ad-hoc Committee for the WCI was established to enhance the efficiency of the operation of the WCI.

May The 6th ICI International Monitoring and Steering Committee unanimously approved the formation of the WCI, and the 6th ICI took place in Seoul, Korea.
