Shipment of residue material from isotope production delayed
The US Department of Energy (DOE) was to begin transporting target residue material in liquid form from the Chalk River Site in Canada to the Savannah River Site in the US in the near future. The material was generated from the production of medical isotopes from US-supplied HEU. In August a coalition of environmental groups filed a lawsuit against the DOE to stop the shipments. It was then agreed to postpone the shipments until at least February 2017.
